We're independent
PlateWise is an independent website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Transport for London (TfL) or any other government body. Official services are available free on GOV.UK.
Data is provided as-is
MOT, tax and vehicle data comes from DVSA and the DVLA. We show it as we receive it, but we can't guarantee it is complete, accurate or current. Records can contain mistakes, such as a mistyped mileage, and recent changes may take a few hours to appear. If an official record is wrong, it must be corrected by the agency that holds it.
Our analysis is a guide
- Mileage alerts highlight readings that go down. They can have innocent causes and aren't proof of clocking.
- ULEZ results are estimates. TfL decides whether a vehicle is charged, so check with TfL before relying on our result.
- Model statistics, such as failure rates, describe averages across many vehicles, not any individual car.
- Guides are general information, not legal, financial or mechanical advice. Fines and rules change, so check GOV.UK for the latest position.
What we don't check
Free government data doesn't include outstanding finance, insurance write-offs, stolen vehicle markers or keeper history. An MOT pass only shows a vehicle met minimum standards on the day it was tested. Before buying a vehicle, inspect it carefully, check the paperwork and consider an independent inspection and a paid history check.
