The rules the calculator uses

London's ULEZ sets a minimum Euro emission standard for each type of vehicle. Electric and hydrogen vehicles always comply. For everything else, the calculator compares your Euro standard with the requirement or, if you don't know it, estimates from the first registration date.

Is the ULEZ calculator accurate?

With a known Euro standard the answer is definite. With only a year, it's an estimate, because some vehicles met the standard before it became mandatory.

What does 'check the Euro standard' mean?

Your vehicle falls in a period when some models met the standard and others didn't. Find the Euro standard on the V5C, from the manufacturer or with TfL's checker.

Do hybrids need to meet ULEZ standards?

Yes. Hybrids are judged on their combustion engine: Euro 4 for petrol hybrids and Euro 6 for diesel hybrids.

Are motorcycles included in the ULEZ?

Yes. Motorcycles, mopeds and scooters need to meet Euro 3, which most registered from July 2007 do.

Can I check a specific vehicle instead?

Yes. Our ULEZ check by registration uses the vehicle's DVLA record, including its Euro status where available.
