How ULEZ rules apply to the A2

Cars that miss the standard pay £12.50 for each day they're driven in the zone. Petrol and petrol-hybrid cars need Euro 4 (most from 2006), while diesels need Euro 6 (most from September 2015).

  • Diesel (58% of A2s tested): most cars in our data are from years unlikely to comply.
  • Petrol (42% of A2s tested): most cars in our data are from years unlikely to comply.

Buying a used Audi A2 for London: what the MOT data shows

The Audi A2s in this data were first registered between 2000 and 2005. 2002 was the most common year, with 1,735 tests (24% of the total), and half were registered in 2003 or later.

Almost every A2 in the data is from a year likely to comply, so age and condition matter more than ULEZ when choosing one. The newest (2005) passed first time 56% of the time at 125,093 miles on average, and the oldest (2000) passed 71% at 103,251 miles.

Whichever year you choose, check the A2's weak spots. The most common MOT failures were lights and electrics: "not working" (6.2% of tests); suspension: "fractured or broken" (5.8%) and "ball joint dust cover no longer prevents the ingress of dirt" (4.8%). The most frequent advisory was "leaking excessively from engine", on 14.7% of tests.

Overall, 55% of A2s passed first time, well below the 71% average for all cars, and they had covered 127,626 miles on average, more than the 73,145-mile average.

About this data

Based on 7,337 first MOT tests of the Audi A2 carried out in 2023.

Source: DVSA anonymised MOT test data (contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0). First attempts on cars only; “pass rate” means passing first time. Averages cover all 32,735,164 cars tested (71% passed), and years with under 50 tests are hidden.

ULEZ results are estimates from fuel type and year of first registration. Transport for London makes the final decision.
