Is the Renault Modus ULEZ Compliant?
Based on 13,988 MOT tests, around 54% of Renault Moduses still on the road are likely to meet London's ULEZ standards, and about 25% are likely to be charged. For the remaining 21%, it depends on the exact Euro standard or month of registration.
The fuel mix matters: tested cars were 75% petrol, 25% diesel. Every petrol Modus in the data (2004 onwards) is likely to be compliant. Diesel Moduses in the data are mostly from years that are unlikely to comply.

How ULEZ rules apply to the Modus
Cars that miss the standard pay £12.50 for each day they're driven in the zone. Petrol and petrol-hybrid cars need Euro 4 (most from 2006), while diesels need Euro 6 (most from September 2015).
- Petrol (75% of Moduses tested): every year in our data is likely to comply.
- Diesel (25% of Moduses tested): most cars in our data are from years unlikely to comply.

Buying a used Renault Modus for London: what the MOT data shows
The Renault Moduses in this data were first registered between 2004 and 2012. 2005 was the most common year, with 2,981 tests (21% of the total), and half were registered in 2007 or later.
Moduses from likely-compliant years passed their MOT first time 51% of the time, at an average of 73,186 miles. Older ones likely to be charged passed 51% of the time with 75,216 miles on average.
On a budget, the oldest petrol Moduses likely to comply are from 2006. 1,783 of them were tested; 2006 cars passed first time 48% of the time and averaged 78,449 miles. Check the Euro standard on the V5C before you buy one from around then.
Whichever year you choose, check the Modus's weak spots. The most common MOT failures were lights and electrics: "not working" (13.9% of tests); suspension: "fractured or broken" (12.6%) and "ball joint excessively worn" (6.9%). The most frequent advisory was "tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm", on 19.0% of tests.
Overall, 50% of Moduses passed first time, well below the 71% average for all cars, and they had covered 75,339 miles on average, more than the 73,145-mile average.
