Buying a used Tesla Model X for London: what the MOT data shows

The Tesla Model X models in this data were first registered between 2017 and 2020. 2017 was the most common year, with 2,026 tests (35% of the total), and half were registered in 2018 or later.

Every Model X in the data is from a year likely to comply, so age and condition matter more than ULEZ when choosing one. The newest (2020) passed first time 82% of the time at 33,002 miles on average, and the oldest (2017) passed 82% at 58,935 miles.

Whichever year you choose, check the Model X's weak spots. The most common MOT failures were tyres: "has ply or cords exposed" (7.1% of tests), "tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm" (3.2%) and "has a cut in excess of the requirements deep enough to reach the ply or cords" (2.2%). The most frequent advisory was "tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm", on 22.2% of tests.

Overall, 83% of Model X models passed first time, well above the 71% average for all cars, and they had covered 47,604 miles on average, fewer than the 73,145-mile average.
